Violence at Maruti’s Manesar plant was a result of management-workers issues: SIT

Violence at Maruti’s Manesar plant was a result of management-workers issues: SIT The violence at the Manesar Maruti plant on July 18 this year was not instigated from outside; rather it had occurred due to internal issues between the company's management and workers, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) said in its report.

On July 18, workers at the Manesar plant went on rampage, killing on senior manager and leaving hundreds injured. The auto giant had claimed that the aggression had been planed by some outsiders.

The violence-hit plant remained under lockout for more than a month, and fired around five hundred permanent workers, and declined to re-employ the same number of temporary workers. Since then, the company has overhauled the process of recruitment, and announced hefty pay hikes for remaining workers.

Separately, a source with access to the SIT report claimed that aggressive workers on the day of the rampage had plans to injure or even kill all the representatives of the management.

Speaking on the topic, the source said, "The workers rushed to the management floor, armed with door beams, with the specific purpose of killing managers there. They hit management people so badly that several of their body parts were fractured."

Some workers blocked the staircase so that no management representative could escape.

The Haryana Police has framed charges against 145 people after interrogating around 300 witnesses.
