'Vitamin D may help keep cold away'

'Vitamin D may help keep cold away'Research has stated that if one gets enough of sunshine or Vitamin D one can easily keep cold at bay.

The Finnish study pertained to active role of vitamin in people's endurance to colds, flu and other respiratory infections as these ailments tend to multiply in winters when people are less exposed to sun.

Dr. Ilkka Laaksi of the University of Tampere said, “Some past studies found people with relatively lower vitamin D levels in their blood tended to have higher rates of respiratory infections than those with higher levels of the vitamin.”

Laaksi adds that recent lab results claim that Vitamin D might play a vital role in body's immune defenses against respiratory pathogens.

The result of the study performed on 164 male military respondents who consumed 400 international units (IU) of vitamin D or inactive placebo pills continuously for six months from October to March, a time when Vitamin D content declines.

It was seen that people who took a bout of Vitamin D showed lessened symptoms of cold and respiratory disorders.
