Volkswagen releases new 2012 Beetle

Volkswagen releases new 2012 BeetleGerman auto maker, Volkswagen has released its new 2012 Beetle model with a tougher exterior and a more powerful engine.

The earlier Beetle model, which was released in 1998, did not perform well in the market due to lackluster dynamics. The car was seen as an outdated model after the release of rival BMW’s MINI in 2001. However, with Golf MkVI underpinnings, the model will be able to compete better in the market.

Women accounted for 65% of the last New Beetle model and the company expects this to drop to about 50%. At present, buyers age averages at about 58, something that would come down to 36. The Volkswagen Beetle will use Jetta sedan’s engines, underpinnings and platform, and will be made in Puebla, Mexico. The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle will come with three power-train choices including a 2.5L gasoline 5-cylinder, 2.0 TDI Clean Diesel and a 2.0L TSI turbocharged gasoline engine.

Volkswagen of America’s VP of product marketing and strategy says “The new style tested well in North America as well as Europe, and China is a growing market.” The company is yet to release new sales goals but the targets are expected to be higher than last year’s 16,537 units in sales. The models will come with a starting price of at $19,765.
