WADA satisfied with amended Spanish anti-doping rules

World Anti-Doping Agency Madrid  - The World Anti-Doping Agency is satisfied with amended Spanish anti-doping laws which is good news for Madrid as it looks to be elected 2016 Olympics host in less than a fortnight.

"Based on the information provided to us by officials from the Spanish government, WADA is satisfied that the amendment to the Decree is such that the rule is now in line with the World Anti- Doping Code and the International Standards," Wada president John Fahey said in a statement given to German Press Agency dpa on Saturday.

Spain adjusted its laws on Friday to the WADA standard, allowing out-of-competition tests between 6 am and 11 pm. Spain had in the past only allowed testing from 8 am onwards.

The International Olympic Committee evaluation committee said in its final report published on September 2 that "at the time of the visit, it was unclear whether Spanish anti-doping legislation complied with the WADA code. It is important that this issue is resolved."

The IOC elects the 2016 host city on October 2 in Copenhagen, with Madrid competing against Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and Chicago.  dpa
