WICB retains inexperienced squad

WICB retains inexperienced squad The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has retained the original 30-member squad for the ICC Champion Trophy, which will kick off from 22nd September, even after all the main players have made themselves available for selection in the nation team.

In the list of 30 probable players Devon Smith, Fidel Edwards and Daren Powell have been only experienced players as all other players have been inexperienced, who lost test series against Bangladesh by 2-0.

WICB justified their decision saying that the senior players have not been included in the squad as the list of 30- probable players was selected for the players, who made themselves available for selection before the deadline of 30th June.

Senior players refused to play in the International cricket due to a contractual issue between WICB and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) over player's salaries, playing conditions etc. However, they made themselves available for selection after a mediator was appointed to solve this dispute between WIPA and the WICB yesterday.

The list of 30 probable player for Champions Trophy includes Ryan Austin, Christopher Barnwell, David Bernard, Tino Best, Royston Crandon, Romel Currency, Travis Dowlin, Fidel Edwards, Rayad Emrit, Andre Fletcher, Ryan Hinds, Leon Johnson, Anthony Martin, Kevin McClean, Nikita Miller, Nelon Pascal, Brenton Parchment, Omar Phillips, Daren Powell, Kieran Powell, Floyd Reifer, Dale Richards, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Shane Shillingford, Devon Smith, Kevin Stoute, Devon Thomas, Gavin Tonge and Chadwick Walton.
