Woman and her boyfriend found guilty of negligence
A couple in Ohio, a woman and the father of two of her four children, have been sentenced to four years in prison for negligent parenting that led to a fatal fire.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that Cheyenne Tackett, 21, and David Barrett, 25, received far more time than the 30 days prosecutors recommended. Marion County Common Pleas Judge Robert Davidson rebuked them for their failure to care for the children.
Davidson told them," There are loads of people in this world who would give anything to have a baby and cannot. Your conduct ... was inexcusable. The manner in which you conducted yourself was abysmal."
Logan, 4, was regularly left to care for his three younger siblings while his mother and her boyfriend slept and played video games, feeding them peanut butter. The children were left unwashed and undressed, said prosecutors.
On May 8 Logan started a fire that killed Jacob Tackett, 2, and Madison Barrett, 8 months. (With input from agencies)
