Woman reunites with Nurse who cared for her when she was just three months old
When Amanda Scarpinati was only 3 months old a hot-steam humidifier burnt her head and hands badly, and now after so many years she has got a chance to thank the nurse who took care of her.
The Associated Press reported thatScarpinati for so many years faced bullying due to disfigurement from the burns. She said that with the help of photos of her as a baby, in which she was seen being cradled in the nurse's arms, she would be able to thank the nurse.
The 38-year-old, of Athens, New York, told the AP, that she used to look at those images and talk to the nurse, although she didn’t know who she was. She added that she always felt very nice and comfortable, whenever she looked at the woman who seemed to be taking care of her so sincerely.
Albany Medical Center's 1977 annual report carried those heartwarming, black-and-white photos. For decades,Scarpinati, a mother of one, has been treasuring the photos, and the mystery nurse. She even tried to find her 20years back but failed.
Thus, Scarpinati chose Facebook and took help of social media users in tracking down the woman who cared for her so many years ago. She found the nurse after over a thousand shares later.
A former Albany Medical Center nurse,Angela Leary came to know about Scarpinati's effort and sent her a message recognizing the mystery nurse as Susan Berger, who is now a Syracuse resident. With the help of a local news station,Scarpinati got to talk to the woman on the phone.
According to the AP, Amanda Scarpinati said, “It was amazing. She just has such a gentle, caring voice, just like I imagined she'd have”.
"I remember her," Berger told the AP. "She was very peaceful … She was just so calm and trusting. It was amazing.
"I don't know how many nurses would be lucky enough to have something like this happen, to have someone remember you all that time," she continued. "I feel privileged to be the one to represent all the nurses who cared for her over the years."
