Zimbabwe's neighbours call on ZEC to release poll results quickly

Zimbabwe ElectionsLusaka  - Zimbabwe's neighbours in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) late Saturday called on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to quickly release the results of presidential elections held two weeks ago.

In a communique issued after a marathon talks on Zimbabwe's election standoff in the Zambian capital Lusaka SADC leaders also called on Zimbabweans respect the poll outcome.

Zimbabweans have been waiting for two weeks for the official results of the March 29 elections.

The opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) claims its leader Morgan Tsvangirai defeated longtime President Robert Mugabe in the vote. Mugabe's party says the outcome calls for a runoff. (dpa)
