Angry Klinsmann calls for improvement after Wolfsburg debacle

Bayern Munich coach Juergen KlinsmannMunich  - Bayern Munich coach Juergen Klinsmann ran out of patience in the wake of a 5-1 humiliation at VfL Wolfsburg, telling his players on Sunday that their personal future and that of the club is at stake over the next days and weeks.

"It is important to me that everyone understands what is at stake here: the year 2009 for Bayern, the future for Bayern," Klinsmann told reporters after adressing the team.

"The players must know that they face consequences at some stage. After the season we will review who has worked well and who hasn't."

Munich crashed to their worst Bundesliga defeat in seven years against the new league leaders Wolfsburg on saturday. The debacle set off the alarm bells in Munich ahead of Wednesday's first Champions League quarter-final with Spanish giants Barcelona.

Klinsmann said he felt plenty of anger within himself and no longer wanted to be the sole person to blame.

"I always took the blame when a match was lost. Now every player must take responsibility and accept blame," the coach warned.

Klinsmann reportedly singled out several players, with the Bild daily saying on its website that he named the defensive work of youngster Breno "unprofessional" in the Wolfsburg game.

The former Germany coach Klinsmann took the job at the start of what has been an indifferent season for Germany's number one club.

But Munich can still lift trophies as they trail Wolfsburg by just three points and have never been eliminated by Barca in Europe, and Klinsmann expressed his hope that his stern warning is observed.

"The players were sent home with the clear message that they have to think things over," Klinsmann said. dpa
