Bobcats slip past slumping Celtics in OT

Los Angeles - The Charlotte Bobcats are the latest to take advantage of the mighty Boston Celtics' recent road woes.

Raymond Felton scored 25 points, and rookie DJ Augustin came off the bench to add 11 of his 20 in overtime, including the go-ahead three-pointer, as the Bobcats surprised the suddenly stumbling Celtics with a 114-106 victory on Tuesday night.

After starting the season with a sparkling 27-2 record, including a franchise-record 19 consecutive victories, the defending NBA Champions have sputtered, dropping five of their last seven contests - all on the road.

"We told our team before the season started, it will be 82-game sevens. Every time we play it's a game seven for the other team," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "On a night that we're not ready mentally up for that, we're going to have to get lucky or play over our heads. Tonight, we didn't play great and we lost the game."

Gerald Wallace netted 23 points, Frenchman Boris Diaw had 15, while Emeka Okafor finished with 13 and 15 rebounds as Charlotte (13- 22) outscored their guests 17-9 in the extra five-minute session.

"They always come out and play great defense and get fired up," said Bobcats sharpshooter Adam Morrison, who contributed 13 points off the bench. "We came out and tried to match their energy. We stayed with them the whole game and prevailed."

Paul Pierce led the Celtics (29-7) with 28 points, including a jumper with 3.4 second left to force the overtime. Ray Allen added 20, Rajon Rondo chipped in with 16 while Kevin Garnett collected 14 with 13 boards.

"We'll get better," Garnett said of the slide. "We're a team of confidence, a team of character. We're just getting everybody's best shot right now."

With the score knotted at 101 in the overtime, Augustine drilled a three-pointer to put the Bobcats ahead for good with 2:28 left. The speedy guard then passed to Okafor for a layup, and followed with two free throws to open up a 108-101 cushion with 57 seconds remaining.

After Felton sank two free throws, Augustin followed with four more to complete the victory.

"I knew Raymond was tired because he was doing so much, so I just tried to step up and help him out and help out my team," Augustin said. "That's what we all did. We tried to help out each other. We did a good job at that."
