Case filed against motorcycle rider

He was involved in a mishap which killed a student

A second year engineering student Sameera Samel (19) of Mumbai, currently staying at the college hostel at Balewadi, was killed in an accident on February 12. The scooter pillion rider Shilpi Singh (19) escaped with serious injuries, when an unidentified motorcycle rider collided with them on Baner road.

The Chatuhshrungi police registered a case in this regard on Thursday after the pillion rider recovered from her accidental injuries.

Sub inspector MN Joshi of Chatuhshrungi police station told DNA that the two girls had gone to meet their friend and were returning to the college hostel on their scooter when the accident took place. The two were studying at Moze College of Engineering in Balewadi, Joshi said.

When the two reached a spot located in front of Bharati Vidyapeeth on Baner road, a two-wheeler rider heading in the same direction applied urgent brakes. Sameera also applied urgent brakes to avoid collusion with the other vehicle. At this moment, a scooter rider heading in the opposite direction hit their scooter head-on. Sameera fell down on the road and sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to a private hospital located nearby where she breathed her last.
