Clough and Ferguson lock horns in FA Cup clash
London - Nigel Clough will be hoping to take another step nearer to achieving something his legendary father never managed this weekend when his Derby County side take on Manchester United for a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
The names of Clough and Ferguson clashed many times a generation ago, when Brian led Nottingham Forest against the mighty Manchester United, steered by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Nigel Clough is now in charge at Derby County, and after seeing off Forest in the previous round, he is hoping to cause what would be a huge upset and move closer to FA Cup glory.
Midfielder Chris Porter is hoping to play a part in the game after his move from Motherwell against the side he followed as a boy.
"Hopefully, I will have a part to play," Porter said. "I'm from Wigan and I support Manchester United, so it would be even more special to play against them.
"I've never had the chance before, so it would be a first for me." Derby have already beaten United once at home this year, edging them out 1-0 before eventually going out 4-3 in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.
"Can we win? Of course we can," he said.
Ferguson said United could have Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra back from injury for the match after the pair came through training this week.
Much of the attention, though, will be on Chelsea's tie at Watford, which takes on added significance, with new coach Guus Hiddink set to be in attendance.
The Dutchman took over from the sacked Luiz Felipe Scolari on Wednesday, and will lead the team until the end of the season, although he is set to watch Saturday's game from the stands.
Swansea, who are going well in the Championship, take on Premier League side Fulham in a match which will see Fulham's Simon Davies come up against one of his close friends, Mark Gower.
"It will be a nice occasion for me personally if we go up against each other," Gower said. "But it's a great opportunity for us as a team, first and foremost, because it is a game we can enjoy.
"We've done well in the league recently so we know the next few games will be really pressurised. This one is a game we can enjoy because, even if we lose, then we know we've had a good run.
"It's a chance for the quarter-finals which would have been unthinkable for this club just a few years ago.
