David Beckham likely to be axed from England’s next game

David BeckhamLondon, Nov 7: LA Galaxy star David Beckham is likely to be axed for England’s clash with Germany on November 19.

The former skipper, one cap short of Bobby Moore’s outfield player record of 108, is about to pay the price for LA Galaxy’s failure to reach the MSL play-offs.

It is believed that Becks, 33, will lack match fitness for the prestigious friendly in Berlin, as he will not have played a serious game for three weeks, The Sun reported.

English coach Fabio Capello had indicated that Beckham might play against the Germans and sit out the proposed match against Euro champions Spain in February.

But it now appears he will leave Beckham behind when England march on Berlin backed by 7,000 fans in two weeks’ time.

Now Beckham’s ability to reach Moore’s milestone — and perhaps go beyond it — will depend on how he gets on when he joins AC Milan on loan from January 7.

Capello is aware of Moore’s record — but he has never been bothered about public relations or personal ambitions.

Earlier, former goalkeeper Peter Shilton, who holds the overall appearance record of 125, accused Capello of gifting Beckham caps with late sub appearances. (ANI)
