Koirala likens federalism to walking on sword’s edgeKathmandu, Feb 25: Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala today cautioned against adopting federalism without first giving serious thought to its pros and cons.

Speaking at a programme organized by Nepali Congress State Restructuring Advisory Committee here, Koirala said, "It is dangerous as treading on a sword's edge."

"There is a danger that the country may face disintegration if decisions on the issue of federalism are taken on whims. We have to take our decisions very carefully," he added

"Federalism, if implemented correctly, would unite the country," Nepalnews quoted him as saying.

He also said economic viability needs to be taken into consideration before going into federalism.

He said his party is ready to take any sorts of risk for the establishment of sustainable peace and Constitution drafting process.

Koirala urged the Nepali Congress leaders to take the responsibilities bestowed by the history for the drafting of the democratic Constitution.

Accusing Prime Minister Prachanda of clearly disregarding politics of consensus, cooperation and unity, he opposed the Maoist proposition of giving president the executive power. (ANI)
