Nearly 45,000 Names Accessed after FAA Computer was hacked

faa logoOn Monday, the employees of the Federal Aviation Administration were made aware that last week, a computer of the agency was hacked, which led to obtaining access to the names and Social Security numbers of more than 45,000 employees and FAA retirees by the hackers.

Via a statement, FAA confirmed, "All affected employees will receive individual letters to notify them about the breach. The FAA is moving quickly to prevent similar incidents and has identified immediate steps as well as longer-term measures to further protect personal information."

It was further informed by the agency that a total of 48 files were accessed by the hackers on its computer server, and two of them contained personal information for everyone that was on the FAA's employee rolls as of the first week of February 2006.

FAA also reported that the FAA's air-traffic control system or other agency operations was disconnected from the affected served.

However, the statement, which FAA released, was not enough to reassure the users, whose data was compromised.
