Police surrender to Pillays assault

No bandobast could stop the Rajesh Pillay Academy (RPA) and Vikram Pillay Academy (VPA) as they sent the police force out of the reckoning in the, Late Professor Shardul B Gaikwad Invitational Hockey Tournament at the Ammunition Factory ground here on Friday

RPA and VPA scripted an impressive wins in their high energy encounters against Railway Police and Pune City Police respectively.

RPA skipper Sanjay Pollaya led them from the front with a double strike as his side thrashed Railway Police 3-1 to enter the semi-finals. Pollaya struck in the 11th and 36th minute and contributed in the second goal through an immaculate pass which was struck by Sameer Shaikh. Rohidas Musale reduced the margin for Railway Police converting the awarded penalty corner in the first half.

A spectacular stick work in the second half by Vikas Pillay, who scored two back-to-back goals, enabled VPA outclass Pune City police 4-2 in the quarterfinal round of the tournament. Yuvraj Walmiki scored the first goal for VPA in the 12th minute.

A fully charged up VPA dominated the second half right from the first minute. Rahul Deokar converted the penalty corner slapping the ball hard from the D-top to score the equaliser. It was Vikas Pillay, who threatened the police defenders on several occasions. Pillay struck in the 35th minute through a penalty corner followed by another goal which was magnificently passed by Alwin Alexander.
