Kabul  - The Afghan cabinet has demanded the presence of the international community "must be reviewed" while the government should also regulate the authority and responsibilities of the foreign forces in the country, a presidential statement said Monday.

The move by the Afghan ministers came three days after some 90 civilians, including women but mostly children, were killed in a US- led coalition air raid in western Herat Province.

Moscow - The Russian military Saturday criticized the presence of NATO naval vessels in the Black Sea given the current conflict in Georgia.

"NATO is enhancing its military presence on the Black Sea under the pretext of providing humanitarian aid," Deputy Chief of Staff Anatoly Nogovitsyn said, according to a report by the Interfax news agency.

"This does not contribute to stability in the region," the colonel general added.

Kabul - NATO forces coordinating with the Pakistan military fired artillery at militants who were preparing to attack a NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) base in eastern Afghanistan, ISAF said on Friday.

Pakistani military confirmed to NATO forces that the militants were preparing to fire rockets at a military base in Paktika province, which is close to the porous border, ISAF said in a statement.

ISAF forces "gained positive identification of the insurgents" and fired "multiple artillery rounds" into Pakistan on Thursday night, it said.

London, Aug 22 : The NATO troops deployed in Afghanistan have reportedly come across a new Taliban weapon - a rocket-propelled grenade packed with ball bearings, which can kill any number of persons in 30-feet radius with its impact.

The lethal arsenal of around 89 units was found in a Taliban ammo dump in the increasingly violent Afghan region of Khost.

Oslo - Russia has decided to freeze and cancel all military cooperation with Norway and other NATO members, the online edition of Oslo daily Aftenposetn reported Wednesday.

Brussels - NATO foreign ministers will offer political and practical support to Georgia and will review the alliance's ties with Russia following its "excessive use of force" in the Caucasus, officials in Brussels said Monday.

At Tuesday's emergency meeting, which was requested by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, ministers will also call on Russia to observe the ceasefire and respect Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity by withdrawing its troops.
