Pope to launch YouTube channel

Pope to launch YouTube channelLondon, Jan 19 : Pope Benedict XVI is set to launch a dedicated channel on video sharing website YouTube.

Video footage and audio of addresses given by the Pope, as well as news about the Holy See, will be posted on to the website, reports the Telegraph.

The material is aimed at everyone from devout Catholics to the curious browser.

Vatican Radio and the Vatican''s television centre in collaboration with Google, which owns YouTube, will supply the material.

This is not the first time when the Vatican has displayed receptivity to technology in order to spread the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

Since 1995, it has had a website, www. vatican. va, which publishes the pontiff''s pronouncements and teachings.

Its unofficial mouthpiece, the newspaper L''Osservatore Romano, also has its own website, as does Vatican Radio, which broadcasts in 39 languages.

A website dedicated to the Vatican City State, the world''s smallest independent state in population and size, features six webcams, one of which is permanently trained on the tomb of the last Pope, John Paul II. (ANI)
