Pro-Hazare protesters picket Manmohan Singh's Chandigarh houseChandigarh, Aug 23 : Pro-Anna Hazare agitators Tuesday held a protest outside the private residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the upscale Sector 11 here.

The protesters openly defied prohibitory orders enforced Monday by the additional district magistrate outside the house.

Nearly 25-30 protesters, including women, carried the national flag and posters and banners and staged a sit-in outside the house.

Hariom-Bhatia-Surya-PharmaChandigarh-based Rs 1,144-crore Surya Pharmaceuticals has acquired US-based over-the-counter (OTC) analgesic drug brand ActivOn including its global marketing rights by paying $22 million.

Surya Pharmaceuticals, having net revenue of Rs 1,144 crore in financial year 2009-10, has already got assurance from Exim Bank that will finance the acquisition, according to firm's filing before the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).

Rathore was sentenced to six months in jail for molesting 16-year-old Ruchika Girhotra.

He had moved the plea against the sentence and his conviction.

Sixty-eight -year-old Rathore, a 1965 batch IPS officer, who retired in 2002, was awarded the sentence by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on December 22, 2009, for molesting Ruchika, a budding tennis player, in 1990.

Patients managed to escape from the hospital, the trauma centre and next-door operation theatre in sector-16 experienced damage due to fire.

Doctors state that 12 patients were in the trauma centre when this accident occurred but every patient was safely pushed out of the centre before flames harm lives.

Fire was controlled by 4 fire tenders and all the patients are rescued safely.

Chandigarh, Jan 18 - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday strongly opposed the anticipatory bail sought by disgraced former Haryana police chief S. P. S. Rathore in connection with two fresh police complaints against him.

CBI submitted its reply in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Rathore, convicted for molesting teenager Ruchika Girhotra, had moved the high court seeking anticipatory bail after a district court of Panchkula town in Haryana had dismissed it Jan 8.

Ruchika's principal returns state award Chandigarh, Jan 11 : Four days after a magisterial inquiry held the Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School here guilty of being unfair in expelling teenage molestation victim Ruchika Girhotra for fee default, the school principal S. Sebestina Monday returned the state award.

The Chandigarh administration had directed her to return the award, which was given to her in 2005 for meritorious contribution to city education. She was the principal of the school in 1990, when Ruchika was expelled.
