This 'probiotic pill' could get rid of diabetes for good

Probiotic pillsLondon, Feb 3 : Scientists have achieved breakthrough by developing a pill that can cure diabetes by simply "rewiring" the body.

The new study suggests that a "probiotic pill" which contains live bacteria found in the human gut, could radically reduce blood glucose levels from the pancreas to the upper intestine, the Daily Express reported.

It is believed that this "rewiring" of the body could revolutionise treatment for diabetes - both Types 1 and 2 - and potentially one day offer the possibility of a cure. Lead researcher Professor John March said that if it worked, all people would have to do was to take the pill to control their diabetes.

Djokovic invites Murray to clear-the-air talks post Oz Open triumph

London, Feb 03 - World number one Novak Djokovic has invited British number one Andy Murray to clear-the-air talks after insisting that he did not fake injury during the Australian Open final.

And Djokovic insisted that the Scot and other top players are his friends because he sees them so much, more than his parents and sometimes more than his wife.

Murray doubted that the Serb pretended that he was suffering in the third set before romping away to claim his eighth Grand Slam title, The Mirror reported.

Djokovic has insisted that he would not allow the bad blood surrounding his fifth triumph at the Australian Open to change his relationship with Murray.

Sebastian Vettel fastest again on day 2 of Jerez pre-season testing

Sebastian VettelLondon, Feb 03 - Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel emerged as the fastest driver for the second day in succession at the pre-season Formula One testing in Jerez on Monday.

The German, who switched to Ferrari from Red Bull over the winters, completed 88 laps to finish almost one second clear of his opponents.

While the second- fastest time of the day went to Sauber's Felipe Nasr, reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton clocked 91 laps, the most by any driver, despite a reliability issue, the BBC reported.

However, McLaren-Honda's testing session got interrupted again due to ancillary problems as Jenson Button could only manage to drive six laps. (ANI)

Apple to issue bonds worth 5 bln dollars

AppleLondon, Feb 03 - Tech giant Apple is expected to raise at least five billion dollars by selling bonds.

Portions of the funds raised will be used for Apple's share buyback programme, reported the BBC.

The company intends to return more than 130 billion dollars to shareholders by the end of this year.

However, the amount being raised is less than half the 12 billion dollars generated in April 2014 when the company was last active in the U. S. bond market.

While some of the bonds will take five years to mature, others will take as long as three decades.

Katy Perry 'takes the cake' with her Super Bowl half-time performance

London - 'Titanic' star Kate Winslet says divorce can be good for children because it helps teach them how to struggle.

Winslet, 39, who has three children, said that she tried to turn negative experiences into positive ones and would not want to change anything in her personal life, such as her two divorces, reported Harper's Bazaar UK magazine.

"I think it is very important to teach your children to struggle on some level. I would honestly say that I wouldn't change a thing. Even all the bad bits," Winslet said.

'Birth control pill' chemist Carl Djerassi passes away at 91

London, Feb 1 - Carl Djerassi, an Austrian-born US chemist who developed the birth control pill, has passed away at the age of 91.

Stanford University spokesman Dan Stober said that Djerassi died of complications of cancer in his San Francisco home, the Guardian reported.

He was most famous for leading a research team in Mexico City that in 1951 developed norethindrone, a synthetic molecule that became a key component of the first birth control pill.

"The pill," as it came to be known, radically transformed sexual practices and women's lives.

The famous chemist is now survived by a son, Dale Djerassi, a stepdaughter, Leah Middlebrook and a grandson, Alexander Djerassi. (ANI)

London, Jan. 29 - The best-ever video of a UFO has been recently captured in skies above Argentina, it has been reported.

According to UFO Sightings Daily, local residents in Frias spotted the fireball and at first thought it was simply a meteor , the Daily Star reported.

However, experts stated that most space rocks burn up quickly when they hit the earth's atmosphere whilst this footage shows the UFO burning for over three minutes.

The object also appears to change direction half way through the video. The UFO was not only spotted in Argentina that day, but also in Brazil. (ANI)

Facebook 'gets a lot done in 2014' as it nets 'strong profits,' millions of users

London, Jan 29 - Facebook has recorded profits of 701 million dollars in the fourth quarter, marking a 34 percent increase on the same period last year.

The company's advertising revenue rose by 53 percent to 3.59 billion dollars, with 70 percent of the total coming from mobile ad sales, reported the BBC.

A statement released by the social media network quoted CEO Mark Zuckerberg as saying, "We got a lot done in 2014."

Total profits for the year stood at 2.9 billion dollars, almost double the total for 2013.

IBM to lay off more than 100,000 workers globally

IBM workersLondon, Jan 27 : IBM is planning to slash more than 100,000 workers from across the globe as a cost-cutting measure.

According to Mirror, the US company, which employs around 20,000 people in the UK, confirmed it was preparing for "workforce rebalancing" that would lead to the loss of "several thousand" roles.

However, the company said that reports claiming that the company was preparing to cut 111,000 workers - more than a quarter of its 430,000 workers - were "ridiculous" and "baseless".

The computer giant refused to divulge any more details on the same.(ANI)
