Replica of Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun’ jet can do just 5mph on road!

Top GunLondon, November 7 : A fighter Jet resembling the one Tom Cruise flew in the film ‘Top Gun’ has been created by a Holland-based designer, but it can only go 5mph on the road.

Arthur van Poppel, 49, from Tilburg said that it took him 3,500 hours to construct the model, which measures seven metres in length and four metres in width.

He has revealed that the 4,000-pound F-35 Lightning II Fighter Jet has been made from iron, wood, hard foam, fibreglass, and lots of epoxy filler.

Poppel has even installed cameras and monitors inside the cockpit.

"I finished the plane at the beginning of last year. I had no drawings to work from, just some pictures and a small plastic Revell model to use as an example,” the Telegraph quoted him as saying.

"But eventually I managed to find my way and I am very happy with it," he added.

Poppel, who is an accomplished artist and musician, says that he likes to entertain people, and to shock them at times.

"The jet can spray water and has odour pots to simulate diesel smells, and the nose can drop down 30 degrees. Every time people see it they are amazed and that makes me very happy," he said.

His jet has also been equipped with several sound effects, navigation lights, interior lights, and searchlights.

While Poppel has proved that he can design aeroplanes pretty well, he insists that making musical instruments is what interests him more.

"I like to build music machines - anything from a musical car to a musical bike. I have been able to play 50 musical instruments at the same time using my feet, hands, arms and elbows,” he said.

"But I would love to play once on the Oprah Winfrey show or at Paul McCartney''s birthday party," he added. (ANI)
