ROUNDUP: Good victories for Togo, Gabon, Tunisia and Burkina Faso

ROUNDUP: Good victories for Togo, Gabon, Tunisia and Burkina Faso Johannesburg - There were good wins for Togo, Gabon, Tunisia and Burkina Faso on Saturday as African countries started their final phase of the 2010 World Cup qualifying.

In Ouagadougou goals by Mahamoudou Kere and Alain Traore gave Burkina Faso a 2-0 half-time lead against Guinea in a Group E match before Moumouni Dagano added a second from the spot eight minutes after the restart.

The visitors were also awarded a penalty in the 61st minute and Pascal Feindouno pulled one back from the resultant spot kick for Guinea, but Qatar-based Dagano restored the three-goal advantage in the 66th minute.

Four minutes from the end Kamil Zayatte, who plays for Hull in the Premier League, scored Guinea's second to make the final score 4-2 for Burkina Faso.

In a Group A game Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor gave Togo a perfect start to by scoring the winner in a 1-0 against Cameroon.

Although the game was Togo's home match it was switched to the Ghanaian capital of Accra as the stadium in Lome remains out of bounds after rioting occurred there two years ago.

Adebayor, whose inclusion in the starting line-up was only given the green light by Arsenal on Friday, scored in the 11th minute, to give the surprise 2006 World Cup finalist an early lead. It was to remain the only goal of the game.

For Cameroon's coach Otto Pfister, the defeat could well spell the end of his days in charge of the Indomitable Lions as he has remained a controversial choice since taking over in 2007 at the insistence of the sports ministry.

The other game in the group saw Alain Giresse's Gabon side stun the home side Morocco with a 2-1 victory in Casablanca.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is one of three brothers who has been called up into the Gabonese national side and last month still played for the French under-21 side, opened the scoring for the west African country in the 34th minute.

Roguy Meye added a second for the visitors just before the break.

Dutch-born Mounir El Hamdaoui pulled one back for the home side a few minutes from the end, but it was a case of too little too late and Gabon held on for an important 2-1 victory.

Tunisia also had a winning start into their Group B campaign, 2-1 over hosting Kenya in Nairobi.

The 21-year-old Etoile du Sahel defender Ammar Jemal gave the visitors an early lead in the fifth minute.

Although Auxerre's Dennis Oliech equalized with 20 minutes to go, it was not to be enough for a share of the spoils as just two minutes later Issam Jomaa, who plays for Lens in France, scored the winner for the Carthage Eagles.

In Kigali, Rwanda secured a goalless draw against favoured Algeria in Group C.

The Group D game in the Sudanese city of Omdurman between Sudan and Mali ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sevilla's Frederic Kanoute opened the scoring in the 20th minute, but Mudathir El Tahir equalized just four minutes later to give British coach Stephen Constantine at least a share of the spoils in his first game in charge of Sudan.

The matches double up as qualifying matches for the World Cup and the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, with the five group winners joining the hosts South Africa at the World Cup finals, while the top three teams qualify for the continental event in Angola. (dpa)
