Seagate Announces 3.5 Inch Cheetah Hard Drives
With the intention to expand its impressive line up of ‘Cheetah’ enterprise-class hard drive family, Seagate has launched two new hard drives including the ‘Cheetah 15K.7’ and ‘Cheetah NS.2’.
The company claims that the new drives will help hit the liquidity crisis by offering up superior levels of system performance, capability, consistency and lower power usage.
The company said that the Cheetah 15K.7 drive delivers the fastest performance of any 3.5in drive, whereas the Cheetah NS.2 has the lowest power requirement of any 3.5in Tier 1 drive.
Both the Seagate second generation Cheetah drives feature the second generation of Seagate's PowerTrim technology, which supports the energy-efficient Cheetah NS.2 to save more than 20% of power as compared to its first-generation design.
The drives, which are available as self-encrypting drives for designated OEMs, provide government-grade data protection. Moreover, the drives offer immediate secure erase for drives that can be recycled, reprocessed or returned for expired lease, repair or warranty.
Available in three different capacities of 600 GB, 450 GB and 300 GB, Cheetah NS.2 features an interface of 6 GB/s SAS-2.0 and 4B/s FC.
The other features of Cheetah NS.2 include a spindle speed of 15,000 RPM, seek time of 3.4 ms, 16 MB of cache space and 0.55% AFR / 1.6M hours MTBF.
In contrast, Cheetah NS.2 comes packed with a 10,000 RPM spindle speed, 6 GB/s SAS-2.0 (600 and 450 GB drives), 4GB/s FC interface. It’s seek time is 3.8 ms, cache of 16 MB, 0.55% AFR / 1.6M hours MTBF.
The Cheetah NS.2 drive is available from today onwards, while Cheetah 15K.7 will be available later this quarter in the same capacities.
