Study: Higher Levels Of Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers Found In Kids

A recent study has found that levels of PBDEs, or polybrominated diphenyl ethers are three times higher in children as compared to their mothers. PBDEs are fire retardant chemicals used in electronics, toys and furniture. This study was conducted out by the researchers of the Environmental Working Group. Previous studies have shown that PBDEs can be highly toxic to the developing brains of animals. PBDEs, or polybrominated diphenyl ethers, are hormone-disrupting pollutants that build up in the blood and tissues.

Obesity Can Adversely Affect Asthma

Obesity is linked to several health related problems. Various studies have shown that obesity increases the risk of asthma. A recent research has shown that obesity also affects the acuteness of this disease. Researchers in America found out that rate of hospitalization for asthma is higher in obese persons as compared to non-obese persons. This shows that asthma control is difficult in obese persons.

Researchers analyzed the data collected from 1,113 asthma patients above 35 years of age in America. The study subjects were asked various questions regarding weight, height, smoking habits, other illnesses, treatment and their asthma-specific quality of life, besides asthma control and asthma-related hospitalizations.

Study: Commitment Phobia Can Be In The Genes

Men who have commitment and relationship problems should get gene testing done. A team of researchers at the Karolinksa Institute in Sweden released the results of their study which stated that men who carried a common variation of a gene that is involved in brain signaling could have communication and relationship issues.

The findings were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and said that this gene can effect the production of vasopressin, a hormone which is said to influence monogamy in animals.  The study found that men who had two copies of allele 334 had double the chance of having had a marital or relationship discord as compared to those men who did not carry the gene variant.
