The U-12 boys' football team of Fr Agnel's Multipurpose School, Vashi finished among top four teams in the Bodyline Sports Inter-School Football Tournament. Agnel boys played five matches in the tournament and lost the semifinal to Don Bosco High School, Matunga 0-3. Advait Shinde was given the best midfielder's trophy while the boys were also given the fair play award.

Pint-size Apurva Ringangaonkar earned a hard fought 7-6 (7-5) win over Ayman Khan to move ahead, in the 16th edition of RCBC Junior Open Tennis Tournament (under-10) at the club court here on Monday.

The game which witnessed baseline encounter saw the players tied 6-6 for the enforcement of the tie-breaker. Khan, played some accurate strokes to take a crucial 4-2 lead in the tie-breaker. But, Ringangaonkar raised his game dramatically and came back to take a 5-3 lead.

With still two points in favour, Khan was almost sure about his win. However, it was a couple of drop shots from Ringangaonkar which took the match away from Khan. Boosted with the confidence Ringangaonkar was quick to finish the match with 7-5 score.

Former Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president Lalit Modi, who lost his post to Sanjay Dixit, is down but certainly not out of action.  

Having unexpectedly won the top prize in the national circuit a fortnight ago, Bangalore-based shuttler Sayali Gokhale finds herself in unfamiliar territory. With the women's singles title at the National Championships under her belt, she will now be under the microscope, the one everybody will want to beat. How she handles this new-found status will probably define where her career is headed.

But Sayali, 22, is not perturbed. “My game won't get affected,” she says, “but it's an additional responsibility. I have to maintain this level.”

Three half-centuries propelled Baroda to a thumping victory over Hyderabad in the Late Capt Vijay Hazare All India Knockout Tournament being played at the Polytechnic ground, Agartala, on Monday.

The Pinal Shah-led outfit has now entered the semifinals of the tournament, where it will meet the winner of the Delhi-Bengal match.

Chasing a modest target of 168, Baroda got off to a poor start as KH Devdhar (5) was given marching orders by pacer MP Arjun. However, SR Solanki (59) and Azhar Bilakhia (50) steadied the ship with a 76-run stand for the second wicket. Solanki hit 10 boundaries in his hour-long stay at the wicket, during which he faced 49 balls.

Strange are the ways of the Surat Municipal Corporation. Almost a week after the SMC got the newly-constructed Adajan sports complex inaugurated by CM Narendra Modi with much fanfare last week, it is yet to be thrown open to public. Delay on the part of authorities in finalising the fee structure and other regulations is said  to be responsible for depriving citizens from using the complex.

The sports complex was developed at Adajan at a cost of Rs2.60 crore to provide quality sports facilities to citizens. It has tennis, volleyball and badminton courts, a skating ring, walking and jogging tracks, a gymnasium and multi-activity room, among other facilities.
