The winners of the Chintan group, St Joseph's Girls High school, Pashan ran over hosts Dastur Girls High School `B' 58-2 in the pre quarter-finals of the 4th Vasantrao Limaye Memorial under-13 Basketball tournament, at the Dastur court here on Monday.

The girls from Camp, Dastur were no match to the champions St Joseph, as they managed to pull one basket back in the third quarter of the match through Sakshi Bafna. Incidentally, that was the only basket they could score in the entire match.

"They are out to win and it is the way they play," said the St Joseph's coach Mathew Fernandes.

Giant-killer Sanjay Dixit said his victory over Lalit Modi in the Rajasthan Cricket Association election was a result of a 'negative' vote. "Beating Modi was easy in the sense that he was autocratic in his functioning," the new RCA president said. "He was a law unto himself. He was trying to act like God. He would do everything with unscrupulous means and with money power. He was running a mighty empire, which was full of money, power, pelf and horse trading. He had a very aggressive legal strategy."

Giancarlo Fisichella had echoed David Coulthard's views about Force India turning out to be the surprise package of the 2009 season. Now, with their Mercedes Benz-powered car making its track debut in Jerez on Sunday, the Indian outfit is understandably optimistic about its chances.

However, the team's former chief technology officer Mike Gascoyne, has said that despite the reliability of the Mercedes engine and drivetrain package, the team needs to be realistic about its prospects.

The long awaited Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in CBD-Belapur owned by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was inaugurated recently. Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik, MLC Manda Mhatre, Mayor Anjani Bhoir, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nahata and other civic officials were present at the inauguration function. The 3,153 sq meter sport complex comprises of a pavilion building, two lobbies on first floor, player's room, changing room, washrooms and ground. Even if the stadium is ready and inaugurated it won't witness any immediate sports activities.

Table tennis seems to be the favourite sport for most of the college bunkers and those who don't want to waste their money in going out and watch movie in this time of recession. The sports rooms never seem to get rest till the colleges are open as there is always a line of table tennis tables. Students prefer to wait to play the game than to do any other activity. For many, the sport is an activity which keeps them engrossed for more than a couple of hours and say that they don't realise the time while playing.

Maharashtra Taekwondo Association (MTA) conducted the 23rd Inter-District Taekwondo Meet foo sub juniors and Pee Wees at the Navi Mumbai Sports Association.

The tournament was conducted by Ivan Jesudasan, technical director of MTA in which 121 players participated in 21 male and 11 female categories.

Jesudasan, a 5th degree black belt from World Taekwondo Federation, Korea said, "We have been conducting this tournament for the past 23 years and have seen a consistent participation in it. Though there are 21 categories in men's category, there are only 11 categories in women's category since the number of females participating in the tournament has always been lesser than the males."
