Berlin - The president of the international gymnastics federation FIG Bruno Grandi has said that there were believable indications that China had cheated with the age of some of their gymnasts at the Beijing Olympics last year.

"There were strong indications, but I did not handle the investigation. I had to accept the official documents that I was shown at face-value, I am not a policeman or Interpol," he told the German gymnastics magazine Leon.

Frankfurt - Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer is being investigated by the German football association for an incident that occurred during Dortmund's goalless Bundesliga draw on the weekend against Hoffenheim.

Television footage suggested that Schmelzer deliberately stood on the leg of opponent Tobias Weis, who was sent off for an infringement that happened just seconds earlier.

Monte Carlo - Athletics' controlling body IAAF said Monday that the Golden League would be scrapped and replaced by a new circuit called IAAF Diamond League starting in 2010.

In a statement released by the IAAF in Monte Carlo the organization said the new series would also be held outside Europe thereby meeting one of their strategic goals, which is to enhance the worldwide appeal of athletics.
