London - Champions Manchester United have the chance to go top of the table for the first time on Saturday night as the battle for the English Premier League title begins to hit boiling point.

Victory at Bolton Wanderers would lift United one point clear of Liverpool, who are not in action until Monday night when they host Merseyside rivals Everton.

With one game in hand, United have the chance to add to the pressure on Liverpool, who were held to a goalless draw at Stoke City in their last match.

"You don't mind when you go top, but top is definitely the place to be," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said. "Hopefully that's where we'll be by Saturday night."

Hamburg - Bundesliga leaders TSG Hoffenheim could be without Vedad Ibisevic for several months as the league top scorer has likely partly ruptured the cruciate knee ligament.

Ibisevic was due to return to Germany on Thursday for thorough medical examinations from a training camp in Spain where he sustained the injury the previous day during a tune-up match with SV Hamburg.

"The first examinations indicate that the front right cruciate ligament is partly torn," Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick told reporters on Wednesday night.

London, Jan 15 : Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has been warned by his girlfriend Alyona Haynes' husband John Haynes that the lady he is dating is nothing but a two-timing liar.

Millionaire Haynes, 50, revealed that the 25-year-old Ukrainian beauty had used her sex appeal to win him over, though she was at the same time trying to woo another on the dating website where they had met.

London, Jan. 15: Manchester United will be without the services of striker Wayne Rooney for the next three weeks after the player limped off the field with a hamstring injury.

Rooney, however, ensured that his club secured a 1-0 victory over Wigan, and move to within two points of title aspirant Liverpool.

"Being at the top is the place to be and now we can do that by Saturday night," said coach Alex Ferguson, adding that he wasn't too worried about the absence of Rooney from the line up.

Madrid  - Spanish giants Barcelona, Valencia and Sevilla cruised into the quarter-finals of the Spanish King's Cup on Wednesday, knocking out Atletico Madrid, Racing Santander and Deportivo Coruna respectively.

A reserve-packed Barca side came from behind to beat Atletico 2-1, with goals from Bojan Krkic and Eidur Gudjohnsen. Atletico had taken an early lead through Florent Sinama Pongolle, but never looked capable of turning the tie around.

London  - An injury to Wayne Rooney marred a good night for Manchester United as they moved to within two points of leaders Liverpool in the English Premier League after beating Wigan Athletic 1-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

England striker Rooney scored the only goal of the game in the first minute of the match to lift champions United above Chelsea into second, but the striker is now expected to be out for three weeks with hamstring trouble.
