Congress Legislature Party to meet in Rajasthan todayNew Delhi, Dec 11: Newly elected Congress MLAs from Rajasthan will meet here today to elect their new leader.

According to party sources, all 96 Congress Legislature Party (CLP) members are meeting here. Former Chief Minister and AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot has emerged as the front-runner for the post of Chief Minister.

The meeting will be attended by three central observers - AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, Madhusudan Mistry and Chaudhary Virender Singh.

Anand Sharma to inaugurate festival of Indian Panorama-2008 Films

New Delhi, Dec 11 : Union Minister of State for Information andBroadcasting Anand Sharma will inaugurate the Festival of Indian Panorama-2008 Films here today.

In a special exposition of the entire Indian Panorama package, screened recently at the International Film Festival of India, 2008 in Goa, will be presented at Siri Fort Auditorium Complex.

This Festival of Indian Panorama-2008 will screen 26 feature and 21 non-Feature films till December 21.

The opening film of the feature film section, Little Zizou (Gujarati- Hindi-English), directed by Sooni Taraporevala, will be screened in the presence of the cast and crew of the film, comprising Sooni Taraporevala , Imaad Shah, Sohrab Ardeshir and Shernaz Patel.

Manmohan Singh to open India Telecom 2008

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Dec 10 : Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the India Telecom 2008, in New Delhi tomorrow.

Jointly organized by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the FICCI, the two-day event marks India''s leading international conference and exhibition for the entire telecom system. The theme of India Telecom 2008 is "Connecting Rural India".

Dr. Singh will also launch the country''s first 3G services on the occasion. The Service will enable transfer of high-speed data, video streaming on mobile phones.

Indian investigators confirm links to Pakistan in Mumbai attacks

New Delhi - Indian police said Tuesday they had identified the Mumbai attackers as Pakistanis, and confirmed a communication subscription used in the November
26 attacks was purchased in that country.

A voice over internet protocol (VOIP) service the terrorists used to communicate with their leaders during the deadly siege was bought in the Pakistani port city of Karachi, PTI news agency quoted Indian investigators saying.

Mumbai police also released photographs of the terrorists killed during the attacks, identifying each by name and place of origin in Pakistan, and details of the places they attacked.

Indian equities rise 5 per cent on positive cues

New Delhi - Indian stock indices rose by more than 5 per cent Wednesday following positive cues from Asian markets and news of a likely bailout for the US auto industry.

The Bombay Stock Exchange's 30-share sensitive index Sensex closed at 9654.90 points, 5.4 per cent above its previous close.

The broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange ended at 2928.25 points, about 5.2 per cent over its previous close.

Market analysts said reports indicating an agreement on a 15-billion-dollar bailout for US automakers had buoyed investors.

Financial incentives announced by the government and rate cuts by the Reserve Bank of India announced on the weekend also had positive impact.
