Nitish KumarNew Delhi, Nov. 7 : Five parliamentarians of Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal-United party from Bihar have resigned from Lok Sabha as a mark of protest against attacks by hooligans of Raj Thackeray''s Maharashtra Navanirmana Sena (MNS) on people of north Indian origin in Mumbai and Nashik.

This was announced by the aggrieved MPs in New Delhi today.

IT Minister reiterates allocation of 3G spectrumNew Delhi, Nov 7 : Union Minister of Communications and IT A. Raja reiterated on Friday that India will allocate spectrum for next generation wireless networks as planned earlier.

Successful bidders would be allocated the spectrum by the end of January after holding an auction, the Minister said.

The decision is likely to affect all leading telecom operators.

According to reports, India expects to earn 40-50 billion rupees in revenues annually from a higher spectrum fee to be levied on mobile telecom.

Japan's Daiichi completes takeover of Indian pharma firm Ranbaxy

Indian Company RanbaxyNew Delhi - Japan's Daiichi Sankyo had completed its acquisition of Indian pharmaceutical major Ranbaxy Laboratories, the companies said in a joint statement Friday.

It was announced in June that the Japanese firm would be acquiring a controlling stake of 63.92 per cent in Ranbaxy, India's largest pharma firm, in an estimated 4-billion-dollar deal.

In a regulatory statement, the firms announced Friday that they had closed the deal with the final transfer of remaining equity shares of the promoters of Ranbaxy, the Singh family.

India to send Gurkha battalion to join UN force in Congo New Delhi - India will be sending a battalion of Gurkha soldiers to replace some of its troops on the United Nations peacekeeping mission in strife-torn Congo, a Defence Ministry spokesman said Friday.

India, with 4,500 troops, is one of the largest contributors to the 17,000-strong UN peacekeeping mission in Congo, usually referred to by its French acronym MONUC.

The Gurkha battalion would be sent to Congo by the end of November, army spokesman Virendra Singh said.
