Dalai Lama's envoys return to India after talks in China

Tibet China New Delhi  - Representatives of the Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama, who returned to India on Thursday after a week's visit to China, said they had presented a memorandum to the Chinese leadership on "genuine autonomy."

The main purpose of the trip was to follow up discussions held in July, Kasur Lodi Gyari, who led the delegation, said in a statement.

He said the delegation had briefed Samdhong Rimpoche, prime minister of the Tibetan government-in-exile.

Tibet MapNew Delhi, Nov. 6 : A Tibetan delegation that visted China for autonomy-related talks between October 30 and November 5, today briefed the Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in exile, Samdhong Rinpoche, about the outcome of the deliberations.

In a statement issued here, Special Envoy Kasur Lodi Gyari, said that the Eighth Round of Tibetan-Chinese discussions was a follow up on the discussions held during the seventh round in July this year.

Indian equities dip on inflation woesNew Delhi - Indian share prices dipped by more than 3 per cent Thursday on heavy selling by foreign funds and retail investors tracking an overnight slide in United States markets.

An unexpected rise in inflation figures also pushed down shares. Metal and blue-chip stocks were among the big losers.

The benchmark 30-share Sensex of the Bombay Stock Exchange ended with a loss of 385.79 points, or 3.81 per cent, closing at 9,734.22. The Sensex opened weak at
9,755.03 and hit an intra-day low of 9,635.22.

CCEA approves integrated check posts

New Delhi, Nov 6: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for setting up integrated check posts at 13 identified entry points on the land borders of the country at a total cost of Rs. 635 crore.

The integrated check posts shall be a sanitized zone with dedicated passenger and cargo terminals comprising adequate customs and immigration facilities, security and scanning equipments, health and quarantine facilities.

Biotechnology industry partnership programme approved

New Delhi, Nov 6: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today gave its approval for launching of a new scheme on Biotechnology Industry Partnership Programme – An advanced technology science scheme.

The scheme envisaged as a government partnership programme with industries for support on cost sharing basis for high risk discovery and innovation, accelerated technology development specially for futuristic areas.

An amount of Rs. 350 crore has been earmarked for the scheme during the 11th Plan.

PM constitutes a panel to review economic situation

PM constitutes a panel to review economic situationPrime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, has constituted a panel under his chairmanship, to review the global financial condition and its impact on the economy of the country. Mr. Singh had assured the corporate world in a recent meeting that government would monitor financial matters on daily basis. 

The other members of committee are Finance Minister, P Chidambaram, Industry and Commerce Minister, Kamal Nath, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Montek Singh Ahluwalia and RBI Governor D Subbarao.
