New Delhi, Nov 12 : Members of Sikh community took out a procession in New Delhi on Wednesday on the eve of the 540th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion.

In New Delhi, a procession was taken out from Gurudwara Sisganj in the centre of the city.

"On this occasion we take out Nagar Kirtan. The religious processions are meant to spread the teachings of Guru Nanak. Therefore, we are taking out this procession to proliferate the wisdom contained in the words of Guru Nanak to the people," said Kulbir Singh Garewal, manager of the Sisganj Gurudwara.

New Delhi, Nov. 12 : Egyptian President Mohamed Hosny Mubarak will Visit India from November 16 to 19.

Mubarak will be visiting this country after 25 years. He last came here in 1983 on a state visit.

The focus of Mubarak’s visit will be on intensifying strategic and economic cooperation between India and Egypt, old friends and founders of non-aligned movement and South-South cooperation.

New Delhi, Nov. 12th, 2008 --India successfully test-fired a new supersonic surface-to-surface missile (SSM) today, capable of hitting targets 600 km away.

The surprise announcement about the new missile, named Shourya (or Valour) was made after the test was conducted at 0955 UAE time. It was not stated if the missile is tactical or nuclear-capable but it may be recalled that India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has had notable successes in missiles since
2007.

Rome/New Delhi - Representatives of major wheat producing countries have called for urgent coordinated action to prevent and control the wheat stem rust disease strain Ug99, a United Nations agency said Wednesday.

The fungus is capable of causing heavy damage to wheat crops and is a major threat to food security, the Rome-based Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said in a statement.
