Belgian King pays obeisance at Bangla Saheb shrine in New Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 5 : Belgian King Albert II and Queen Paola visited Bangla Saheb Gurdwara in New Delhi on Wednesday.

King Albert II, who is on a nine-day visit to India, offered prayers at the Shrine.

The King Albert II and Queen Paola were felicitated with a ceremonial sword, an honour by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC).

“We have welcomed him according to our traditional Sikh custom, this will improve not only the relations between India and Belgium but also the image of the Sikhs living in Belgium will go higher,” said Paramjeet Singh, Sarna, Chairman, Gurudwara Management Committee.

The King and the Queen also inaugurated a ''langar'' (community kitchen) on the premises of the Gurudwara.

President Patil leaves for Bhutan to attend new king's coronationNew Delhi, Nov 05: President Pratibha Patil today left for Thimphu on a four-day visit to attend the coronation ceremony of Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, the fifth King of Bhutan.

President Patil would be the guest of honour during the coronation ceremony, which starts from November 6.

Present King Jigme Singye Wangchuk and Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley would receive President Patil at Paro airbase.

PM constitutes apex group

The members of the Apex Group are the Finance Minister, Industry and Commerce Minister, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission and the Governor, Reserve Bank of India.

The Group will meet regularly to coordinate, decide the Government’s response to the points raised by industry from time to time with regard to the current global financial crisis and its impact on India.

Chidambaram meets PSU bank head to review liquidity situation

P. ChidambaramNew Delhi, Nov 4 : Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram met the head of the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks in New Delhi on Tuesday to review the liquidity situation in the country.

The meeting came a day after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh''s meeting with captains of Indian industry, who wanted the government to take steps to enhance liquidity.

Chidambaram said liquidity is a snapshot and liquidity is an everyday affair. India''s central bank has been keeping a close watch on liquidity.
