ZU Ahmed named as Bangladesh's new Navy chief

BangladeshDhaka - Bangladish authorities on Monday appointed Rear Admiral ZU Ahmed as chief of the country's navy, the Defence Ministry announced in a statement.

The new navy chief will assume office on January 29, the Defence Ministry said. Ahmed succeeds Vice Admiral Sarwar Jahan Nizam who goes into retirement on January
28.

Born in Gazipur near Dhaka in 1957, Ahmed joined the navy in July 1976. He received training in the US, China, Pakistan, Korea and the Netherlands, the announcement said. (dpa)
