130 Renowned Personalities Honoured With Padma AwardsFormer RBI Governor Yaga Venugopal Reddy, nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Apollo Hospital head Pratap Reddy and artists Ebrahim Alkazi, Umayalpuram K Sivaraman and Zohra Sehgal have won this year's Padma Vibhushan topping the group of 130 renowned personalities chosen for the Padma awards, India's highest civilian honour.

While no one has been chosen for Bharat Ratna, the highest honor of India, music masters A R Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja have been honored with Padma Bhushan together with actor Aamir Khan, Newsweek editor Farid Zakaria, controversial NRI hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal and PM's surgeon Dr. Ramakant Madanmohan Panda.

The administration has selected 43 personalities for Padma Bhushan. They comprise Carnatic music exponent Professor Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, ballerina Mallika Sarabhia and historian Professor Bipan Chandra.

Bollywood actress Rekha, Saif Ali Khan and Oscarwinning sound recordist Resul Pokutty are among the list of 81 Padma Shri awardees.

The list of Padma awardees consist of 13 foreigners, which comprises some well-known NRIs.

The scientific community received a fair representation with 10 famous personalities bagging the honor.

Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan bagged Padma Vibhushan whereas nuclear scientist Bikash Chandra Sinha, Arogyaswami Joseph Pauraj and Delhi-based mathematician Jagdish Chandra Kapur received the Padma Bhushan.

Plant scientist Professor Palpu Pushpangadan had Padma Shri.
