21-Year-Old Girl Dies Of Swine Flu In Guwahati

Assam-GuwahatiGuhawati has declared its first casualty from the deadly H1N1 virus on Sunday (Dec 27).

After tested positive for swine flu, Sikha Biswas was admitted to the isolation ward of the Guwahati Medical College Hospital in a serious state from the city's Nemcare Hospital on Dec 15.

When met, the principal of GMCH, Dr. MM Deka told that that the 21-year-old girl lost her life because of multiple organ failure.

"She was put on ventilation, and all possible care was taken to revive her," he said, and added, "unfortunately, even though there were brief signs of recovery, her condition deteriorated".

The young girl died at 3.25 am on Sunday.

Biswas, who hailed from a business family of Jagiroad in Morigaon region, had completed her graduation from a city college and was the student of a private computer institute in Morigaon.

Her demise has been taken seriously by the state health unit, and renewed emphasis has been put on spreading knowledge regarding the H1N1 virus.

Physicians as well as nurses in hospitals have been urged to be extra cautious from now onwards as they confront the major risk to exposure.

As per records from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of confirmed swine flu cases in Assam was 45 till Nov. 30.
