Achin Pakhi goes to Cairo International Film festival

Achin Pakhi goes to Cairo International Film festivalDirector Anjan Das's film Achin Pakhi has been selected for the Cairo International Film Festival, but Anjan is not jubilant because Indian films do not have any buyers abroad. Das said that Achin Pakhi is an ethnic movie with five songs and it is highly unlikely that the Western audience will like to sit and watch it. The director maintains that Indian films primarily deal with Indian subjects and do not appeal to the Westerners.

Anjan further said that although this is going to be his first visit to Egypt, he is not very excited about the nomination because he does not feel that Achin Pakhi stands a chance in the competition. Anjan maintains that apart from Budhadeb Dasgupta no other Bengali filmmaker has managed to intrigue the Western audience. Anjan does not give much importance to Awards and believes that Award ceremonies are mostly rigged and are not the right parameters to judge the creativity of a film maker.

Anjan also informed us that Bengali filmmakers have to operate on a shoestring budget while an award worthy production requires a budget of at least 2-3crores. It seems that a lot of talent in the Bengali film industry is getting wasted due to the lack of funding.
