Apple says oops and pulls Baby Shaker application from its App Store

Apple says oops and pulls Baby Shaker application from its App StoreSurrendering immediately to the adverse reaction from livid parents and childrens' groups, the iPhone maker Apple wasted no time to remove the baby-shaking iPhone application from its App Store. Apple not only recalled the "deeply offensive" application, but also issued public apology for approving such a controversial entertainment application called "Baby Shaker" for sale at its Apps store.

Baby Shaker application, developed by Sikalosoft was priced at $0.99 (Rs. 50 approx.). Baby Shaker, featuring sketches of babies, was the game which involved calming down the crying baby by violently shaking the iPhone until the red cross marks appear over the eyes of baby on the screen.

Sarah Jane Brain Foundation, dedicated to children suffering from Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury, was rather unhappy with Baby Shaker application. According to Sarah Jane Brain Foundation, the Baby Shaker application has been created by some sick juvenile mind.

In a letter to Steve Jobs and other Apple executives, the founder of Sarah Jane Brain Foundation, Patrick Donohue wrote, "As the father of a three-year-old who was shaken by her baby nurse when she was only five days old, breaking three ribs, both collarbones and causing a severe brain injury, words cannot describe my reaction. You have no idea the number of children your actions have put at risk by your careless, thoughtless and reckless behavior!"

In a statement, the founder of Center for Shaken Baby Syndrome, Marilyn Bar said, "Not only are they making fun of Shaken Baby Syndrome, but they are actually encouraging it. This is absolutely terrible."

Seeing the sensitivity of the issue, Apple said Oops and pulled the application.

Apple definitely has admitted its goof, but it’s surprising that how could Apple, which has been maintaining rigorous control over its App Store, commit such a faux pas. Certainly, it was not expected from Apple. Apple certainly needs to review its procedure of selecting apps for its App Store. It is very important particularly when its App Store has hit “1 Billion Download Mark”.
