Asus to release second generation Eee Pad Transformer tablet in OctoberAsus might be planning to release the second generation of its Eee Pad Transformer tablet computer in October, according to sources in the supply chain.

Wintek has become a second supplier of touch panels for the device. About 400,000 Eee Pad Transformer tablets are believed to have been sold in the second quarter of 2011 and the company is aiming to double the number to about one million in this quarter.

Hannstar Display is the other manufacturer that will be involved in the supply chain. The Asus Eee Pad Transformer has been received well in the market and a more expensive Eee Pad with a detachable keyboard is features as the best selling tablet on Amazon’s UK version.

The tablet features a dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 SoC clocked at 1Ghz, 1GB RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a 10.1-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, two cameras, Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread and an eight hour battery life.
