Eicher Motors Share Price Target at Rs 9,500: ICICI Securities
ICICI Securities has upgraded Eicher Motors to Buy from Hold, raising its target price to Rs 9,500 from Rs 7,400, implying 22% upside from the current market price of Rs 7,779. The brokerage's July 30 results update shows the Royal Enfield maker's first-quarter volumes grew 24% year-on-year, though EBITDA margin slipped 150 basis points sequentially to 24.3% on elevated raw-material costs. The upgrade reflects a planned capacity expansion from 1.5 million to 2.45 million units annually by fiscal 2030, a possible entry into the 250cc motorcycle segment, and a revised valuation multiple of 30 times earnings, up from 25 times previously.

ICICI Securities has upgraded Eicher Motors to Buy from Hold, raising its target price sharply to Rs 9,500 from Rs 7,400 — implying 22% upside from the current market price of Rs 7,779. In a July 30 results update titled "Decent quarter, strong momentum stays intact," the brokerage said the Royal Enfield parent's consistent domestic outperformance, brand strength and an approaching wave of capacity expansion justify a more bullish stance, even after a first quarter in which margins came in slightly below expectations.
Q1FY27: Volumes Strong, Margins Slip On Raw Material Costs
Eicher Motors reported standalone revenue of Rs 62 billion, up 27% year-on-year and 5% sequentially, broadly matching the brokerage's estimate. Volumes rose to roughly 330,000 units, up 24% year-on-year, while realisations improved a more modest 2% year-on-year. EBITDA grew 23% year-on-year to Rs 15.1 billion, though the EBITDA margin slipped 150 basis points sequentially to 24.3%, about 50 basis points below the brokerage's forecast, as elevated raw-material costs weighed on profitability. Profit after tax rose 15% year-on-year to Rs 15.1 billion, in line with expectations.
Royal Enfield's own operating metrics showed a similar pattern: unit volumes climbed 24.4% year-on-year to 330,427 motorcycles, but EBITDA per unit slipped 1.4% year-on-year to Rs 45,708 as gross profit per unit fell 6.5%, reflecting the same commodity cost pressure visible at the consolidated level.
What's Driving The Upgrade
- A sizeable capacity expansion is underway. Eicher is lifting annual capacity from roughly 1.5 million units currently to 2 million units by the second quarter of fiscal 2028 through brownfield expansion, and further to approximately 2.45 million units by fiscal 2030 via a greenfield project — a near 75% increase from current levels over three years.
- A potential entry into the 250cc motorcycle segment is under consideration, which the brokerage says could meaningfully expand Royal Enfield's addressable market beyond its traditional mid-and-large-capacity stronghold.
- Domestic demand indicators remain strong, with enquiries and bookings running ahead of wholesale volumes, dealer inventory tight at just 10-12 days, and continued benefit from a prior GST rate cut supporting demand even for higher-capacity 450-650cc bikes.
- Export markets are recovering, with management flagging strong growth in Brazil, other Latin American markets and the SAARC region — particularly Nepal — alongside early signs of a turnaround in the US market.
- The brokerage now builds in 14% volume and 20% EPS compound annual growth over fiscal 2026-29, underpinning the revised, higher target price.
ICICI Securities analysts Vivek Kumar, Ronak Mehta and Smit Shah note that Eicher's newer electric motorcycle line, Flying Flea, began deliveries this quarter with an encouraging early response — around 100 units retailed from a single Bengaluru showroom, with expansion to ten touchpoints and six additional cities planned. Separately, group commercial-vehicle arm VECV signed an agreement with India's road transport ministry tied to an old-vehicle replacement scheme in the Delhi-NCR region, addressing a market the brokerage pegs at roughly 207,000 vehicles.
Stock Levels To Watch
| Metric | Level (Rs) |
|---|---|
| Current Market Price | 7,779 |
| 52-Week High | 8,233 |
| 52-Week Low | 5,353 |
| ICICI Securities Target Price (12-month) | 9,500 |
| Market Capitalisation | Rs 2,135 billion |
The stock has already delivered a 42.2% absolute gain over the trailing 12 months, outperforming the Sensex by nearly 47 percentage points on a relative basis, and now trades close to its 52-week high — meaning the brokerage's revised target implies the rally still has meaningful room to run rather than signalling exhaustion.
How The New Target Is Built
The revised target price rests on a sum-of-the-parts valuation, with ICICI Securities raising its target multiple for the Royal Enfield business to 30 times earnings from 25 times previously, reflecting greater confidence in the growth outlook:
| Business Segment | Valuation Methodology | Value/Share (Rs) |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Enfield (RE) | 30x P/E (Sep'28E) | 8,750 |
| VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) | 12x EV/EBITDA | 750 |
| SoTP Target Price | 9,500 | |
On earnings, the brokerage projects net profit of Rs 62.4 billion in fiscal 2027, rising to Rs 86.5 billion by fiscal 2029, with EPS climbing from Rs 227.3 to Rs 315.4 over the same period — valuing the stock at roughly 34x forward earnings for fiscal 2027, narrowing to 24.7x by fiscal 2029 as earnings compound.
- A weak customer response to upcoming product launches, including the potential 250cc entry, could undercut the growth thesis behind the upgrade.
- Further margin pressure — potentially needed to drive higher volume growth through pricing or promotional activity — could weigh on profitability even as revenue scales.
Promoter holding stood at 49.0% as of June 2026, broadly stable over the preceding two quarters, with institutional investors holding a further 41.1% of the company.
