Attack on a convoy of NATO oil tankers in Pakistan leaves three police officers dead

NATO-Oil-TankersAuthorities have said that three police officers were killed and a fourth was wounded in an attack on a convoy of NATO oil tankers near Talagang, Pakistan.

Dawn reported on Sunday that attackers opened fire on the convoy Saturday, destroying at least six tankers carrying supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan.

Officials said that drivers sped away in six other tankers, sparing them from destruction.

The attack was carried out by about 30 armed men riding in three jeeps, Dawn, citing sources, said.

The report further said that they fired at the tankers as the vehicles were parked at a refueling pump, setting off a fire that spread to nearby shops.

The attackers exchanged gunfire with officers in a police patrol that arrived at the scene, killing two officers and injuring two others. One of the wounded officers subsequently died.

The report also said that firefighters were still trying to put out the fires late on Saturday. (With Inputs from Agencies)
