The data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that the life expectancy of a boy in Australia is 79.7 years, while a girl's life expectancy is 84.2 years. The level is the highest ever recorded in the country. However, it was found that the longevity was affected by the states.

The ACT recorded the highest figures of 81 years for males and 84.8 for females. On the other hand, the Northern Territory recorded the lowest life expectancy in the country of 74.9 years for males and 80.5 for females.

The state of Northern Territory recorded the highest infant mortality rate of 7.6 deaths per 1,000 births in Australia for 2011. The Australian Bureau of Statistics also said that the country recorded a record number of deaths at
146,900 in 2011.

The combined national life expectancy of Australia is 81.4 years, which is higher than that of the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and the US. The national infant mortality rate in Australia was recorded at the level of 3.8.
