Barca youngsters Pique, Busquets called up for Spain-England

Gerard PiqueSeville - Barcelona youngsters Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets have been called up for the first time as Spain coach Vicente del Bosque on Friday picked them for next week's friendly against England.

Pique, 22, has been in excellent form since rejoining Barca from Manchester United last July.

He has been a regular in the Spain Under-21 side for the past two years, and helped them Under-19 team to pick up the European crown in Poland in 2006.

Del Bosque called up Pique for the Seville match on February 11 because two of his usual central defenders, Barca captain Carles Puyol and Raul Albiol of Valencia, are injured, though they have both been included in the squad.

He chose midfielder Busquets because of injury to Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas, who is not in the squad.

The form of Busquets, 20, has been just as good as Pique's this season. But unlike Pique, he has never played for Spain at junior level.

Busquets is the son of Barca's reserve keeper of the 1990s. Coach Josep Guardiola has given him his wings this season, and he has caught the eye with his boisterous tackling and accurate passing.

Del Bosque recalled Euro 2008 heroes David Silva, Andres Iniesta and Daniel Guiza, now that they have all recovered from injury.

Spain are at the top of the FIFA world rankings after their Euro 2008 triumph. They have gone a record 28 games without defeat since November 2006.

Spain squad:

Goalkeepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Jose Reina (Liverpool)
