Burst pipe forces shutdown of reactor at Romania's Cernavoda plant

Burst pipe forces shutdown of reactor at Romania's Cernavoda plant Bucharest - One of the Romanian Cernavoda nuclear power plant's two reactors was shut down Saturday due to a burst water pipe, the Romanian news agency Mediafax reported.

Plant management expects to have the damage repaired within a week.

Cernavoda's second reactor was already turned off due to routine maintenance and upgrades.

The hydroelectric power plant at Turceni was forced to increase production to meet Romania's electricity needs.

Cernavoda normally produces enough power to meet 17 per cent of Romania's electric demand.(dpa)
