Chandan Roy Sanyal Likely To Do 'Midnight's Children'

Chandan Roy Sanyal Likely To Do 'Midnight's Children'Chandan Roy Sanyal has three films to his credit as of now. And if rumors are to be believed the actor is also being considered for 'Midnight’s Children' based on the popular Rushdie novel of the same name. This Deepa Mehta project can well add a feather to his cap if it materializes. ‘Mushroom’ by the Srilankan director Vimukthi Jayasundara is on his plate too and the director has plans to come down to Kolkata after he gets to meet Roy Sanyal in Mumbai.

Chandan isn’t too keen to talk about the Deepa Mehta venture at this stage though. However, the grapevine tells us that he is being considered for the role of Joseph D'Costa, a hospital porter and a Communist radical apart from being a most wanted man by the law. Seema Biswas, noted for her intense portrayal of roles will be playing Mary Pereira, the sweetheart of D’Costa.

But how did Chandan come to be associated with such a prestigious project? Well, apparently it was Uma Da Cunha who got to meet Chandan at the Munich International Film Festival and took his interview with the aid of a camera which she passed on to Deepa. The director also explained his role to Chandan by way of an e-mail. She had come down to Mumbai in October this year but missed meeting Roy Sanyal who was stationed at Mauritius that time.

Chandan seems to have his lips sealed and refuses to speak about the project. He discloses that he has started reading the ‘Midnight’s Children’ and confesses to being an avid fan of Deepa Mehta.
