New Delhi [India], Feb. 13 : Snapdeal, India's largest online marketplace, reported that the deployment of its in-house hybrid cloud solution Snapdeal Cirrus, has led to a massive impact on cost and business optimisation - the headline being a 75 percent drop in its monthly infrastructure costs.
Snapdeal Cirrus is built entirely using open source platforms like Openstack with a home grown layer of infrastructure-as-code built on top of it, making it not just an industry-first in India, but also one of the largest deployments of a hybrid cloud anywhere in the world.
New Delhi [India], Feb. 13 : After reports of an enormous cost-cutting by prominent e-commerce company Snapdeal surfaced the Internet, a spokesperson of company revealed that it is not doing any such cost-cutting; rather is looking at better allocation of funds through cost-saving measures.
Over the past two days, the media reports have been filled with Snapdeal supposedly dismissing over hundreds of employees due to budget restrictions and cost-cutting mechanisms to cut costs and downsize its team.
In response to these claims, a spokesperson at the e-commerce firm in an email confirmed that these reports are mere speculations, and is giving readers a 'distorted impression' of the ongoing measures.

New Delhi - Online marketplace Snapdeal has partnered India Post to jointly work on bringing thousands of weavers and artisans from Varanasi through its website.
Snapdeal has launched a pilot with India Post to set-up facilitation desks at Varanasi post offices to enable local weavers to sell on its platform.

Flipkart claimed it sold products worth USD 100 million (over Rs 600 crore) within 10 hours, while snapdeal pegged its sales at Rs 1 crore a minute-- which translates into a figure similar to Filpkart's. There was no sales figures from Amazon which is running a three-day discount campaign.
