New Delhi [India], Mar. 20 : E-commerce major Snapdeal announced the appointment of Jason Kothari as the Chief Executive Officer of FreeCharge and a commitment to invest an additional USD 20 million in the company.

In addition to his appointment, Jason will continue his key leadership role as Chief Strategy and Investment Officer at Snapdeal. He will also join the Board of Directors of FreeCharge.

Over the past two days, the media reports have been filled with Snapdeal supposedly dismissing over hundreds of employees due to budget restrictions and cost-cutting mechanisms to cut costs and downsize its team.

New Delhi - Online marketplace Snapdeal has partnered India Post to jointly work on bringing thousands of weavers and artisans from Varanasi through its website.

Snapdeal has launched a pilot with India Post to set-up facilitation desks at Varanasi post offices to enable local weavers to sell on its platform.

CAIT to approach SC, CCI if govt fails to check eCommerce cos

FlipkartNew Delhi : Traders body CAIT Thursday threatened to move the Supreme Court and Competition Commission of India (CCI) if government failed to act on complaints of alleged predatory pricing and unfair trade practices by eCommerce firms like Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal.

Expressing concerns over huge discounts being offered by e-commerce firms, Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) also met Commerce and Industry Ministry Nirmala Sitharaman yesterday urging her to take steps to monitor and regulate online businesses.

Flipkart snapdealNew Delhi: In one of the biggest sales days in Indian online retail market, Flipkart and snapdeal on Monday sold products worth an estimated Rs 600 crore each even as customers complained about technical glitches, while global e-retailer Amazon continued its own pre-Diwali campaign.

Flipkart claimed it sold products worth USD 100 million (over Rs 600 crore) within 10 hours, while snapdeal pegged its sales at Rs 1 crore a minute-- which translates into a figure similar to Filpkart's. There was no sales figures from Amazon which is running a three-day discount campaign.

The investors in this financing are funds managed by Temasek, BlackRock Inc., Myriad, Premji Invest and Tybourne.
