Constable gets life for murder

A constable who shot dead a political worker during the 1993 panchayat elections in Punjab has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.

On the fateful day, Harjinder Singh was requesting voters to be patient and stand in a queue so that polling could be conducted peacefully. Enraged at Harjinder's attempts to upstage policemen on duty, constable Joginder Singh shot him with his official gun.
