CPM, AIADMK announces electoral tie-upIn a significant move, the CPM formed an alliance with the All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) in Tamil Nadu on Saturday for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

After two days of marathon deliberations at the State Committee Meeting here, CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat called on AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden Residence yesterday afternoon and announced the alliance.

Speaking to reporters after an hour-long meeting Karat said, ''We have decided to forge alliance with the AIADMK. The discussion was cordial and both the parties will together fight the coming Lok Sabha elections.''

Karat said the two parties would be holding more discussions.

Jayalalithaa described the meeting with Karat as "cordial".

"I am happy with the meeting. AIADMK and CPM will enter into an electoral alliance (for the Lok Sabha elections)," she said.

Asked about the possible entry of other parties like PMK, Jayalalithaa said, "Wait and see".
