It’s appears to be an effort to curtail the freedom of electronic media; isn’t it? Well, that’s what some of the people feel about the News Broadcasters Association’s new guidelines for the telecast of news during emergency situations.

In the wake of severe criticism over the way TV covered the Mumbai terror attacks, NBA on Thursday issued a set of guidelines that television news channels should follow in emergency situations.  
 
But, some people feel that it’s not fair to put blame on media instead of Indian security system.

The critics of NBA’s guidelines say that electronic media did not play any destructive role, instead it brought to light the terrible deficiencies in the Indian security system.

For its coverage of 26/11, Indian electronic media came under fire, even though it played very important role in exposing the lapses on the part of security and intelligence agencies. Consequently, the News Broadcasting Standards Dispute Redressal Authority came up with new guidelines on how the media should report an emergency situation. The move has really stirred up a debate – Is it fair to blame electronic media instead of security and intelligence agencies?
