Danish Prince dunked in Sydney Harbour
Sydney - Prince Frederik of Denmark got a taste of Sydney Harbour on Wednesday when his boat capsized twice while training for his over-35 event in the World Masters Games.
For a second consecutive day, racing in the tasar class was cancelled because of stiff winds, meaning the programme will be compressed into just two days.
Australian Olympic sailing gold medallist Tom King said Prince Frederik was used to bigger boats, so racing the two-person tasars was a particular challenge for him.
"(He has had to) adapt his sailing skills to these things, which are quite flighty," King told Australia's AAP news agency. "But he seems to be doing a good job."
King said the prince and racing partner Chris Meehan were not the only ones to get wet.
"The winds were very strong," he said." A lot of boats were upside down and we had to fight really hard just to stay upright."
Prince Frederik attended the Sydney Olympics in 2000, during which he met Australian Mary Donaldson, who is now his wife. They met at the Slip Inn, a singles bar not far from where he is competing in the seventh World Masters Games. (dpa)
